Last week (Thursday 27th August) the second digital NAJ Live took place, with more than 100 attendees signing up to hear from Patricia Law FIRV, Lucy Cripps and Jill Newman under the theme of ‘trending’.

Jill Newman, Editor at Large for the Natural Diamond Council and it’s Style Collective Trend Report revealed the latest trends from the Autumn issue, presenting why diamond jewellery remains meaningful to consumers during uncertain times. Jill highlighted that Symbolic & Sentimental jewellery, layered necklaces and Gypsy set rings as presented in the report, alongside mismatched earrings and commitment and engagement rings featuring the east-west style.

NAJ Member Lucy Cripps, who features on the NAJ Member Marketplace looked at tricks to power up jeweller’s web search presence as well as take advantage of ‘trending’ on social media. Lucy, a copyeditor herself discussed basic language tips to create a clear message for both online sales, but also for online research, to then drive customer enquiries into store.

Popular figure Patricia Law, a fellow of the Institute of Registered Valuers opened the morning with a keynote on some of the trends in the last 20 to 30 years, and their impact on the open and auction market. Patricia illustrated the everchanging popularity of jewellery styles, use of metals and gemstones and highlighted how the industry has to be aware of trends, inclusive of past, present and anticipating the future.

Lindsey Straughton, Industry Ambassador who hosted the NAJ Live! said,

“This was a real timely look into what jewellers should be exploring as we head to Christmas. Jill’s illustrations as to how the trends are being applied to new collections was insightful, as too was Lucy’s talk on copywriting for web, social and search. In fact, the member marketplace bubble with Lucy and Garry did go on for longer than anticipated with so many questions about appearing online.”

“Patricia too, as a Fellow of the Institute of Registered Valuer added enormous value to the session showing what a super resource for the industry the IRV are. Thank you Jill, Lucy and Patricia for taking the time to prepare and present to members, and we’re already looking forward to the September issue with Kerry Gregory.”

The next NAJ Live will take place on Thursday 24th September and feature a keynote from Kerry Gregory ‘Modern Moissanite - What to look for now’.

What are NAJ Lives?

The NAJ Live ‘with bubbles’ is a simple format of presentations from 3 industry experts, introduced and questioned by a knowledgeable guest host. The presentations are then followed up with a chance to see and hear from others on the call through ‘a bubble’ discussion; a structured video conference call hosted by an NAJ representative and one of the guest speakers.

When’s the next NAJ Live?

Digital NAJ Lives with bubbles take place on the last Thursday of the month, starting at 10am and moving into bubble discussions at midday. Members can register as many employees to view and replay the webinars as they see fit, although it’s important to note you can only participate in the bubbles on the day (and to be entered into the prize draw for the bottle of champagne!).
